Credit Repair Has Never Been This Easy!

By Dan Annweiler

Do not get carried away when someone give you a credit card, pay your bills! Fortunately, there are quite a few ways that you can remedy your credit situation.

If you are buying a home it will not always be easy, and even more difficult if your credit is bad. In this situation, it is a good idea to try to obtain an FHA loan, because these loans are guaranteed by the federal government. FHA loans are ideal for those who cannot afford the high down payment that most banks require.

Planning is the first step to repairing your credit. You have to stay focused and committed if you want to make concrete changes to your financial situation. Purchase nothing but the essentials. When considering a purchase, ask yourself if the purchase is necessary and affordable, if you answer yes to both, you should buy it.

Try to keep a balance of less than 50% of your available credit on all of your cards. When balances are over 50%, your credit rating goes down significantly, so try to either spread out your debt or, ideally, pay off your credit cards.

Before using a credit counselor, it's important to research them completely. There are a lot of unscrupulous agencies scattered in among the few legitimate credit counselors that are really there to help you. Many others are nothing more than scams. It is smart to verify the legitimacy of credit counselors prior to getting involved with them.

Give the credit card companies a call and find out if they will lower your credit limit. This will help you accomplish three things: 1. You will avoid being overextended. 2. Credit card companies will begin to view you as responsible. 3. It will be easier for you to get credit as time passes.

Find and challenge errors on your credit report using the dispute process offered by each credit reporting agency. You should contact the credit bureaus both online and by certified letter; be sure to include proof of your claims. Send any correspondence by recorded mail to ensure proof of receipt by the agency.

If you notice credit reporting errors, always file a dispute. Create a dispute letter for agencies that have the error, and submit additional supporting documents along with it. Mail the materials and ask the postal service for proof of delivery in order to build a record to show that the agency did indeed get the letter.

One excellent way to get your credit score back up is to close all your credit cards except for one. Try to make a payment or transfer your balance to your open credit account. It is much easier to manage one large monthly payment than it is to keep track of multiple smaller ones.

As you can see, your credit report no longer has to play the lead role in your worst nightmares. You can fix your credit and no longer have it hanging over your head constantly. If you do the tips listed here, you will surely get a good credit report that lots of people dream of.
